May Day Memories
Happy May Day!
In Iowa, where I grew up, we celebrate May Day! As a child I used to love this day, as it was so exciting to hear the doorbell ring and run after the friend who left me a May Day Basket on my doorstep! Most of the time, I was outrun and never caught my friends, but there were a few memories of catching someone and giving them a kiss! Smiles at the warm memories! Were you a child who celebrated May Day? I have learned over the years, that this tradition is not a nationwide thing! Many people have never even heard of our Midwest fun!
Making May baskets was another event also! Most May Day baskets were a Solo cup, filled with popcorn, left over Easter candy, or Tootsie Rolls. Our Solo cup May Day baskets had two holes punched out with a pipe cleaner handle! We were so creative when we added stickers to the outside! They were simple, yet so much fun to make and receive!
To celebrate memories of childhood friends, let's make a Friendship Star this month!
Friendship Star Quilt Block

The Friendship Star quilt block is very easy and fun to make! Great for beginners because there are only two colors of fabrics and two types of squares! You can get the Friendship Star pattern HERE and start making some for a cute quilt top or table runner this month!
Here’s how I used my Friendship Star!

Happy May Day!
Maybe you'll start a new tradition this year either by surprising a friend with a May Day basket or making some friendship stars for a quilt!
